Both 'Wind, Sand and Stars' and 'Flight to Arras' are autobiographical narratives, and the first one sets the stage for Antoine de Saint-Exupery's most memorable work, 'The Little Prince'. The wind, sand and stars, and a plane crash, you get the picture. The second is all about war and flying sorties and introspection, which can get depressing.
In both works, the author has near-death experiences and examines life in detail. Both are award-winning works. The book I got was old and musty with pages turning from yellow to brown, adding a touch of antiquity to the book.

The book is a collection of stories and poems, many from the Colonial era, where gora-sahibs played cricket and went hunting with much enthusiasm. Ruskin has managed to insert few of his stories and poems in between. The funniest story though, is about Ruskin's hidden talent to sing, written by a friend of his. Over all, the book will certainly draw out smiles from the readers, if not loud ha-ha. The book I got was terribly old and musty with pages turning from yellow to brown, adding a touch of antiquity to the humour.

The plot at points makes you guess the culprit being predictive at times yet the journey is pretty witty. Poirot's instincts and keen observant skills are at par as always. Not the best of Christie, of course, but worth giving the time. Some parts although seem boring and stretchy containing too much of info. But the overall is a one time read.

I read it through this library. Lovers of flowers get subtle fragrance here and there and an open heart may find it at many places! If the reader is in “THE” right state, he may feel realities in this fiction and gratefully be with it. The only point needs to be conveyed to the Author is that the idea of Gender is the deepest of all conditionings and this shell is difficult to crack open till one happen to touch The One (gender neutral)!! Gratefully congratulate the author!! Thank You.

Aniket, a simple techie, gets so much impressed by the stunning beauty of Trisha that he is unable to see anything beyond her charms. Manoj, a highly successful and ambitious executive, is already engaged to Nidhi but is unable to think beyond his own career. Nidhi has left her well-paying corporate job as she loves her hobby and wanted to make living out of it. So, there are four individuals having vastly different personalities. Each one is trying out to carve out a space for him or her in the society.
The most interesting part of the story is when they realize that their current choice of life partner is not really going to make them happy. And the quest starts with identifying the right one, where destiny plays a major role.
Preeti Shenoy is one of my favourite Indian authors. Like her other books I very much enjoyed this novel.

The plus for me was the fantastic vocabulary !

The book might feel extremely boring for the first few chapters. But i would recommend you to read the book and then decide if you want to read the series. The author has created 2 to 3 series in parallel with this so you may have yourself booked for the next 6 months. Wanted to read this book because of known to be honest attitude of Rishi Kapoor . This book throws a light on the advantages of being a star child and also flip side of it . About relationships he shared with his father as a son and with his son as a father . Some honest opinions and acceptance of a stereotype and typecasts of scrips and image from his point of view. An insight to mindset and psyche of an established actor and his viewpoints on parallel cinema . Overall a good read .

The witches is an extremely good and fantastic book.
I liked the part when the boy (or mouse ! )went to the witch's room at hotel magnificent and stole the bottle .
Even after he turned into a mouse , he plucked up the courage to steal it .Roald Dahl wove magic to his story with his imagination and made this book more interesting and exciting .
I would love to read this book again !

This book by Devdutt Patnaik is a brilliant book and worth appreciation. It's lucid language makes children enjoy it very much. The illustrations are very much funny/relevant to the subject and makes it more interesting and undersandable.I could'nt put this book down .
The author, Devdutt Patnaik , has written this book about Sita's five choices by his perspective .It is a book all about choices and rules and whether the choices which Sita made led to trouble or not.

The author Mr OG Mandino is well known motivational speaker from USA. The book enumerate four principles of happiness in the most lucid way and four principles are..
1. Count your blessings
2. Proclaim your rarity
3. Go another mile

This is the third installment in this series and revolves around the story of Magnus Chase, who is an immortal fighter of Odin living in Hotel Valhalla with other einherjar waiting for ragnarok.
But the time has come that Magnus along with Alex,
Mallory,Halfborn,Sam,Blitz and Hearth is going to challenge Loki himself for a flyting contest.
This contest will decide whether the Ship Of The Dead- Naglflar will sail in Midsummer to start ragnarok or not. A gripping storylinewhich will catch the readers attention and fascination.
Overall a very good book and a must read for all.

The book put forwards almost opposite stand points then the most popular stand on controversial issues namely death penalty for Afzal guru, riots after Godhra carnage and evolution of nationalist Hinduvavadi politics. As a reader, you are allowed to disagree but at least need to accept existence of alternative view point. The language of the book is very lucid and all the claims are supported by some evidences. However, authenticity of evidence could be subjective.
The book will surely contribute strengthening our democracy in time to come

The book provides best narration for E=mc2 equation along with its historical relevance of the scientist involved in making the equation possible. Must read for students interested in physics.
Best part being is to observe how all the research works are interlinked to each other and how all the scientific dignitaries such as Faraday, Chadwick, Rutherford or even Einstein and Heisenberg encounter each other by there work.

It has a very good topic want by everyone. The twin sister are same in look only and different in everything else. They had to switch, otherwise Caitlin's year would be ruined as she want to join Jazz Assemble. First they think switching would be fun but they switch 1 day then they have to switch another day and this continues for so many days.
It's fun to read this book!!!!!

A light delightful story... full of twists & turns!!! How certain incidents in our lives, though appear shocking to begin with, eventually turn out to be for our very good !! It all happens for reasons, which maybe unknown to us. The struggles of a single mother followed by a mixture of emotions when her son starts looking out for his father one fine day.... - jealousy, betrayal, not wanting to share him with his dad, protectiveness for her son!!

This is the most tragic, most magical and most "critically acclaimed" novel that I ever read. Spanning hundreds of years, in a magical town of Macondo, the protagonists share the names (befuddling)! Imagine reading the detailed -and jumbled- history of a family-tree, only to realize that nothing comes out of it, "because races condemned to one hundred years of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth". In all honesty, I don't really know if the book is a literary-masterpiece or a verbal-diarrhea. Anyway, my fav quote: "The world was reduced to the surface of her skin and her inner self was safe from all bitterness.”

I really don't know what dystopia is, anymore. Are we conditioned now to feel and belong and to copulate and to own? Or, are the people conditioned in the book BNW to not feel and to not own and to just be? I think, there's no such thing as absolute freedom. I don't have much praise for Huxley as a writer (boy, is he obsessed with Shakespeare!). Also, the copy of Brave New World at CallLibrary was infested with insects and very old (yellow pages). So, I read it online. My parting thought is - Consumerism is going to be the end of all individual thoughts, whether it's our world, or the brave new world. The end is... sad. :'(

Loved the self-deprecating humor and underdog vibe through-out the whole book. The book cuts across the time barrier (was published in 1990s for 30 something single-women) and is still a fresh read. Had a great time reading it. One of the books, written with rare honesty and writing, that inspires me to write in my original voice and to achieve my inner poise. :p

I used to be secular and respect people's religious beliefs for the sake of diversity and universal tolerance. Not anymore. I realize that religion causes more harm than plausible benefits. I have been an atheist since I was 15. "The God Delusion" gave scientific and logical base to my atheism. After reading this, if anyone still believes there's a "man in the sky"... I guess you are delusional. I would like to highlight some points from Dawkins' book that I agree with: One, leaders use religion to their purpose. Two, we don't need religion to know what's good and bad i.e. to be moral. Three, there's no such thing as a muslim, hindu or christian CHILD. Four, religion scars children for life. Five, religion and science are incompatible. Pick one. I choose science.

Joker in the Pack' has all the contents of a classic 'Chetan Bhagat' creation although it is highly relatable especially to an MBA student right from the agonizing Summers to the final placements. It is extremely fast-paced and difficult to put down. The authors, Ritesh Sharma and Neeraj Pahlajani although alumni, have an irreverent view of the IIMs asserting that it's not all fun and games and the stellar salary package. Although the language is a bit simplistic and the stereotypes get a bit much (you have to turn back a few pages to check, which category a person was assigned!), it is a light and interesting read. Noteworthy is that the authors have managed to portray the actual processes in an IIM without being too disrespectful.
Highly recommended for MBA students, although a onetime read, it is packed with enough meat and colourful language that would make you want to finish the book in 3 hours flat.

Initially you would feel that you are reading another book of teens that fall in love but as the pages turned it just became more interesting.
It is a story that is very well written about a girl who looses her parents at a tender age and falls in love with a boy in school who dies because of dengue. The girl has an ambition to become a doctor and she follows her dream and becomes a doctor. While treating one of the patient she comes across with her past. How?
Please read the book to know the answer.
I really wonder whether love can be so true that it can reappear in your life.

The Illustrated Mum is the story of Dolphin, her sister Star and their mom Marigold. Even though the book is aimed at children, it deals with issues like alcoholism, manic depression, tattoos and bad parenting. I really believe that there should be a criteria for procreation: ONE SHOULD BE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT. Don't make babies if you can't take care of them. Simple!

The BFG is a fantasy story about a giant and a small girl and how they save the world from other ferocious giants. The word-play is a laugh-out-loud trail and it's really commendable how Dahl doesn't talk down to his audience, which is primarily kids. I believe children must be the hardest audience to write for and what a glumptious job Dahl does. "Is I right or is I left?" :D

Magical Story of Transformation!

I read the unabridged version of this book online. And how, I loved, loved, loved every bit of it. There's a point in life, when you are down-and-out, and a book comes to you, at the right moment. This is that book for me. The Secret Garden is the story of a girl called Mary, who lives with her uncle in England, after the death of her parents. There she befriends two boys-lively Dickon and sickly Colin- and turns from a sour-soul to a beautiful-soul. The tale is that of the power of magic and growth and power of thought. One of my favorite quotes from the book, “One of the new things people began to find out in the last century was that thoughts—just mere thoughts—are as powerful as electric batteries—as good for one as sunlight is, or as bad for one as poison. To let a sad thought or a bad one get into your mind is as dangerous as letting a scarlet fever germ get into your body." PS: I really hope CallLibrary would add an edition which has complete text.

Dahl is one such story writer who makes you want to be a child again, just so you could enjoy his stories without any guilt. The Twits is a story of two grotesque individuals who trouble each other and everyone else, especially animals. I really enjoyed reading the bits where the couple fought and played pranks on one other. I have been lucky (unlucky?) to witness couples, who are frenemies, for real. The revenge of birds and monkeys on this twisted couple is hilarious. On another note, I wonder if this was the book that coined the word "muggle". What do you have to say, Rowling?

HAHAHA. How come Roald Dahl didn't specify that witches have long noses? I think that's the most common stereotype. I remember a friend once saved my number as a korean character, who played a witch. Her reasoning was that my nose is long (I think!). Anyway, this delightful tale of identifying and fighting witches is a dahl story worth savouring. I might have over-read it, but i found undertones of feminism, when Dahl fought against the commonly held stereotypes.

Oh, how I wish I could snow board or skii down the slopes. This is a fun read for teens or anyone who was a teenager once, with an appetite for adventures. [SPOILER] Though I would like to say that the plot of "cloning" has been over-used and abused many times in fiction. Sigh.

[Declaration: I have not read or watched Kramer Vs Kramer. So this one was a fresh story for me.]
The book is about a man, who is forced to bring up his son alone, after he cheats on his wife. I loved how all the characters were imperfect to a believable degree and the characters taken out of the book can be placed anywhere in the world. It is a quick, easy read focusing on the relationship between a father and his son. The interesting thing is that the father is not necessarily "man" in the title. He oscillates between being a boy to his own father and a man to his own son. The roles we play and the responsibilities we take is all relative.
The romantic spirit with a throw of reality (you can't have it all) made this book a cozy monsoon read for me.

This one tugged at my heart. The protagonist constantly reminded me of a pet, or a wounded animal and this immense feeling of protection you feel towards it. I know it was supposed to be a light-hearted children's book and I did enjoy it. But it made me realize that there's a thin line between affection and pity. Is it love when all you want to do is take care of someone like a baby? I think I missed the point of the book.
Do read it to get your own interpretation out of the life of a kid who was dumped in a dumpster.

Really cute book. My four year old liked it so much, each page has one new insect adding up.Big Spider,Little Spider,Fly,Honey Bee,Cricket,Butterfly..in the background is the green forest with plenty flowers. The book finishes within short time as only16 pages. A4 size glossy paper. Good to build reading skills and vocabulary as keeps kid interested through big, simple drawings.

Once u take the book I bet u won't put it back without completing it. If a movie is to beade on this novel I bet it would be a great hit. Very interesting. Read it and find out on your own. You might not find the cover page attractive, but trust me when I say that whatever information that this book covers is simply spectacular. Bill Bryson is American, which is reflected almost throughout the book, with witty humour and sarcasms.
Topics covered in this book: Origins of Life, what happened after it began, their complex biochemistry, how evolution took place, what dangers did it face, the Great Extinctions, what dangers lurk around human existence, the Universe and its magnificence, how theories were evolved and their validity.
This book will make you aware of the contributions of the lesser known scientist and make you marvel at their achievements.
All in all it shall make you respect and appreciate life itself.
Bill Bryson is a master writer.
The not so good points.
1. The middle parts of the book contains forgettable details about Geology and Rocks, which seems fascinating at first, but then, you just want to get on with it and move on to the next chapter.
2. Although Bill Bryson lists out every danger and threat that we face of mass casualties as a sort of warning, the book takes a bit greyish tone. At almost every other point, you would encounter a sentence that warns of some or the other catastrophe that shall wipe humanity out.
The highlights was:
1. Bill Bryson explains the authenticity of each theory that exists, and does so in simple language. He explains us what assumptions were made, how valid the conclusions are: whether it is about the age of the Earth, The Age of the Universe, The constituent elements of an Exoplanet, the composition of the Earth's core, Our Theories of how life might have come to existence, what animal was present millions of years ago, characteristics of extinct animals, changes that Earth underwent etc.
2. The pleasant style of writing - very captivating indeed.
3. References to all known and not-so-known scientists and their complete backgrounds and personality.
etc.
I read an edition with no pictures or images. I suggest you google such stuff, it would give you a better overall reading experience and understanding.
It is a great book. If you are a philosopher at heart, trying to find the reason of existence and how we came into being, I suggest you read this one.
I give it a 4 / 5

Recently I read “Fun With Devloks , Shiva Plays Dumb Charades” by Devdutt Patnaik.
Dr. Devdutt Patnaik Studied medicine but realized at one point in time that he was more passionate about telling stories. He feels stories are like éclairs; if you chew long enough ,you get a burst of chocolate locked inside. So rather than working as a doctor, he decided to unlock ancient mysteries by writing and reconstructing them. He believes these stories are gift of our ancestors. He is currently Chief Belief Officer Of Future Group.
In the ‘Fun With Devlok ‘series there are basically six books in which “ Shiva Plays Dumb Charades “ Is one. This 41 page – childish story there are 6 basic characters -5 friends ABCDE, and Shiva. ABCDE meet Shiva at a get-together where three sets of parents are talking and gossiping; while the kids are getting bored watching cartoons ,dancing and making shadows using their hands. Then one kid suggested that they play dumb charades. The other kids tried guessing the answers and making mistakes and laughing and teasing each other. This was a whole lot of fun. So much fun that even Shiva decided to join the gang. He showed the mudras and the meaning of the ornaments, clothes and all the other things he has.
Shiva told ABCDE fantastic stories and entertained the kids. The children spent the evening looking at the image of the dancing Shiva and trying to solve the puzzles laid in front of the children by Shiva. They thanked Shiva for playing with them . Shiva thanked them in return, then turned back and left. Soon the parents of ABCDE stopped talking. The story ends with all the parents wondering what had kept the children quite for so long.
This story might seem humorous to the adults and is a knowledge-providing story for children in the age group of 5 years to 10 years. There are some things that go against the moral value one teaches a child .for e.g. on page number 15 and 16. When Shiva gets impatient the children get embarrassed at not being able to guess. Then Shiva says that “if you don’t know, you don’t know , its fine”. I would like to share my opinion that if I would be at Dr. Patnaik’s shoes I would encourage the children to go and learn and come back with appropriate reasons, Shiva should have pushed the children to go on and try till they succeeded and not give up with a complacent attitude, that it is ok if you don’t know. Also, on page number 20 , Shiva is showing ‘Abhaya mudra’. In the process of guessing the game, children gave answers which can hurt religious sentiment.
Overall the story framing and fiction is awesome. The book is entertaining, lucidly written and extends the imagination and imageries quite well. Worth a one time read, and if you have siblings, then you can share the story with them.

My rating : 3.5 / 5
I am a crazy Yuvraj Singh fan. I don't believe everything that media sketches of his character. But watching him on field, his interviews, his interactions during the match etc, for me, Yuvi was the naughty prankster child that did not grow up.
Having read this book, my opinion of Yuvi took a U-turn.
The book is good, especially inspiring if you are feeling low. I shall not hesitate to give it to any person who has been detected for Cancer and is feeling low.
The book gives us a glimpse of Yuvi's life from his childhood, the pre World Cup moments, through the World Cup and then the struggle and finally the resurrection.
I had thought that this book might contain all the dressing room gossips, but they were very few, actually in the appropriate amount, which was what required. After all it is about how to survive the cancer through the difficult chemo-therapy. This takes the majority of the book and rightly so.
The other plus points:
1. Yuvi's own thoughts were reflected, freely. At no point did I feel this book was written to be a best-seller or to impress a particular audience. It was written to inspire and inspire, it did.
2. Like any other Indian, I cannot deny that I was looking forward to read incidents involving Sachin Tendulkar. (We do that, don't we?). But then again, this was about cancer and difficulties dealing with it. In a way it is good that he was mentioned the appropriate amount, neither more, not less.
3. It informs us about Cancer, chemo therapy and how to come out of negative thoughts. Previosly I had no idea it was this painful. I thought, Yuvi is rich, he shall walk through. I could not have been more wrong. !! Sorry Yuvi.!
4. Yuvi appreciating all those who helped him. Such positivism ! All his friends were mentioned.
5. Yuvi thinking about the not-so-privileged people suffering from Cancer. I started appreciating him more when I read the lines: "how will those who are not so rich, those who live in poverty, those who live in rural areas can fight cancer?". Guys, take a moment to step in Yuvi's shoes, be the star. If this thought flashes your mind, I can believe that India is moving towards the right path.
This is because for superstars like Yuvraj, the thoughts that can occupy their minds are: "will I live? If I do, what about my career? Will I be able to attain as much popularity again?". Nothing wrong with these thoughts. But the thoughts of reaching out to others without resources, show that you are a leader, a role model.
6. This book has lots of Yuvi inspired pranks! I shall certainly employ them on my friends. Thank You Yuvi !
The negative points:
The story timeline was not well edited. The story takes us back and forth like a Christopher Nolan movie.
All in all it was a good book. Certainly I found a renewed image of Yuvi-the person. (Yuvi-the cricketer; for me, was , is and will always be my favourite).
If you have friends or relatives suffering from such a disease, please ask them to read this book.

This book series is a rarity in that, the movies are better than the books themselves.
The beginning of the book bores the readers with the love-triangle of Peeta-Katniss-Gael. The victor's tour and the drama that Katniss had to put were not enjoyable in the least! This continues until about half the book is complete. You could skip some paragraphs without losing context.
Just when I feared the unfolding of a new version of "Twilight Saga", things started happening. The next Hunger Games were introduced. And that was the only interesting part of the book. The Hunger Games arena was creative and interesting to read.
However, I have to say, What AN ABRUPT Ending! It was like a Detective show with the episode ending as "to be continued ... ". Again, nothing new, repetition of the Hunger Games concept. My friend rightly said that the concept, although creative, was self terminating. Meaning - it cannot bring new surprises, only different designs in the arena. !
If you decide to read this, I recommend watching the movie as well. Because it goes well only with the movie.
I give 2.5 stars out of 5.

It's basically a pretty interesting book, with good description of characters of Irwin
Link and of the warehouses during the hurricane and the special thing is that it is one of the first cases that the hardy's are solving in Bayport itself. But if you are a Hardy Boys fan you'll think it's a little predictable after some time.If you have read books like Double Jeopardy,Rocky Road,Feeding Frenzy etc. But it is good. One time reading is must

Jon Krakauer was supposed to write an article on ‘Commercialization of Everest’, so he became a part of a commercial expedition. It can be surmised safely that he wrote the memoir Into Thin Air to exorcise the ghosts that must have haunted him after the death-strewn, accident-prone Everest climb. He writes about the ‘survivor’s guilt’ and how he will never come to terms with the way events unfolded on that fateful (though some critics claim that the teams knew beforehand about the bad weather conditions) day. After the tragedy, peaceful sleep seemed evasive and it came to him only in nightmarish segments. I can only imagine - lying there in the sub-zero temperatures, almost dead but not dead yet; breathing, perhaps looking around and when at last you see someone, there’s a tiny flicker of hope in your heart, it warms you for a nanosecond; before the person decides that you are a gone case or is too indifferent to even stop. What drives people to choose the mountain over humans?

Uglies: A world where everyone is pretty!
|
|
|
By Shweta Shah, 10/17/2013 12:26:55 AM

In the dystopian world of the novel Uglies, everyone is turned pretty once they are sixteen.
*Hoverboards*
Since when is beauty all about homogeneity? What matters - your looks or your essence (personality)? Is beauty/ugly a relative term? Would you be an ugly for life and not undergo the operation? What follows is Tally Youngwood’s story.
*Hoverboards*
Interesting plot but it could have been executed better. At one point of time, I felt a short story would have dealt with the theme better since the author repeats the adventures (Tally recollects them to boast about it to her friends) which was redundant. And much of the journey is skipped, they took 3 days to cross the river. What happened during those three days? Nothing? Hard to believe since they were on the run.
*Hoverboards*
Total time pass, if you have loads of free time. Otherwise, just think about the questions I wrote. Also, I want a hoverboard.

Infidel: A remarkable story of Journeys!
|
|
|
By Shweta Shah, 10/14/2013 9:51:48 AM
|
Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Infidel lingers long after you have read the last word. It’s nothing short of a miracle that she survived her childhood - the patriarchal grandmother, castigating mother, absent father, bullying brother, childhood in exile… the perfect recipe for a one way ticket to a mental asylum. Hirsi Ali doesn’t lose her sanity but someone very close to her does. Sometimes, life is about how strong you are on the inside. I have to emphasize that nowhere in the book does Hirsi Ali portray herself as a victim or sounds bitter, but to me she is a survivor extraordinaire. The scary part is the circumstances that she writes about in her autobiography might be an ordinary thing for people who practice it – the female circumcision: the cutting up of inner labia and sowing up of outer labia because the ‘thing between your legs’ is shameful (and don’t forget, women are supposed to be pure); the subjugation of women by covering them up so they won’t provoke men; forced marriages which license rape; the blind faith which misquotes and misinterprets in turn condoning terrible crimes; existing as a non-human under a dictatorship, a tyrannical government; censorship.
The narrative gushes by though English is her third language. I think, she’s quite honest but she was a politician once. Her attack on hypocritical secularism hit home. It’s easy to oppose the system you are a part of – be it religion, or politics. To me, it would be outright bigotry if a non-muslim had written what Ayaan Hirsi Ali wrote in the chapter “Leaving God”.
The book is peppered with shocking anecdotes – a man is shot to death in the refugee camp over a can of water; immigrant women in the Dutch camp laugh when they see a man crying on TV because apparently men don’t cry; a baby is burnt alive by the soldiers, once they rape the mother. The harrowing images never leave.
This is a story of journeys.
From Somalia to Ethiopia to Saudi Arabia to Kenya to the Netherlands to the US.
From the Oppression of Femininity to Feminism.
From Docility to Taking a Stand.
From Devout Muslim to Infidel.

My Story is not one story, its more like a collection of stories, series of events. It was first published chapter-wise in a Malayalam magazine and we can see how years are jumped according to her whims. We see Kamala Das grow, develop, evolve, change from childhood where she's full of life to middle-age, where she comes to terms with death and is not afraid of it.
Reading My Story felt like a friend telling you stories from her life and in that process you see, you hope, that she experiences catharsis. Well, sometimes you did wish that she would stop talking about distant relatives, which was futile - the talking on Das' part and the wishing on my part.
"A poet's raw material is not stone or clay; it is her personality." Let's not forget that Kamala Das is primarily a poet. The sheer brilliance of her poetry dazzled me, I had to close the book, stare out of the classroom window with a fixed gaze after reading her poem(s) (*features regularly from chapter 27, where she learns to surrender completely). I could read her poems again and again and again and get mesmerized every time.
After reading the book, I got a feeling that she has not been loved or has never loved or worse, both. At one point in the book, it appeared as if the only thing that mattered to her was- which people gave her attention and whom she could charm.
I believe promiscuity is fun only when the person practicing it enjoys it. Das, rather gave me an image of a lost girl in the wide world, waiting for her lover (Krishna).
"I am a freak. It's only
To save my face, I flaunt, at
Times, a grand, flamboyant lust."
I can't stress enough the amount of courage she must have needed to write about her sexual life - she mentions in the book how men made passes at her after reading about her carnal encounters, or people scorned at her, or scandalized her.
What was that about fickle religious beliefs: from being Krishna-Obsessed to converting to Islam? She keeps referring to the blue god, whom she believes to be her lover. She converted to Islam later in life (not included in the book). So, I would like to know how her beliefs changed. It always interests me to go a step further from what-a-person-is to how-he/she-became-what-they-are.
She writes in the closing chapter...
"Life has been, despite all emotional involvements, as ineffectual as writing on moving water."
Rest assured, her writing in not ineffectual and it is as smooth as wind on the moving water.
NB: If nothing, read the poems in the book. PURE DELIGHT!

Expect the unexpected. Impossible is the possible. Christie pulls off all that classic whodunnit jazz and much more in this book - diverse characters, strong alibis, a train's compartment, middle of nowhere, snow snow everywhere but not an ice candy to eat.. who's done it?
Murder on the Orient Express will keep you up all night (not really! a short read, couple of hours max) and keep you guessing till the end. Just sit back and think!

Christopher Boone, a 15 year old kid with a hyper active mind, tries to find out who killed his neighbour’s dog, Wellington. In that process, he writes this book.
I don’t think it is for impatient or gregarious people, people who can’t listen. I had a wonderful time glimpsing into Boone’s beautiful mind ~ how he can’t lie, how he can’t stand people touching him, how he gets paranoid and how he needs logic. He is obsessed with numbers, Sherlock Holmes and sky.
Also, he is autistic. I mention this as the last fact because I don’t know if Haddon did justice in the portrayal.

Kane and Abel is the story of two men whose lives intersperse with each other's. They have one thing in common: birth date. No, they are not twins. They are born world apart, one in poverty in Poland, other in affluence in America.
The narrative is linear and it alternates between their lives. We get to see them grow, right from boyhood to no-body-hood. It is depressing because whenever I read a book, I read about a part of the character's life and so when I close the book, I wonder what will happen to them further. There is no such scope in this book. They achieve SO much but for what end? It seems like Archer uses this novel to "chronicle" the lives of Kane and Abel. In this attempt, I think many details are trivialized like the escape from World War I, an immigrant's identity crisis and most of all, the way the economy works and profits are made. Jeffrey Archer is proclaimed as "a master storyteller". What makes a good storyteller? The story has so many coincidences that I felt trolled when I was done with the book.
Why do all the characters want a son? Hah, the sequel is called "The Prodigal Daughter". Take that!

This could be the most beautiful Durjoy Datta novel. The male protagonist is an eighteen year old boy named Deep, who's just adorable. He's also a complete bookworm and wants to be a writer one day. When he's given a chance to go to Hong Kong for a project (internship or such; he's a first year student), he meets a girl, who apart from being pretty, mysterious and sweet, is also blind. Ahana has been blind since she was a child, and is staying at the same hotel Deep is. They become friends quickly.
They travel around the wonderful city of Hong Kong together, Deep being Ahana's eyes, describing everything he sees, and Ahana tells him how she felt when she first visited all of the places with her father. She has been living there for a year now, and adding that to her blindness, she has her own take on every place they visit. It becomes their own adventure, and I felt amazing taking this tour with them!
Words literally came alive, in words of the author. Every thing is so finely described I could see a motion picture running before my eyes. I loved Deep. I loved Ahana. I loved their story.
Already waiting for the next Durjoy Datta book! I'd definitely recommend this book to everyone! I'm sure it will be loved and enjoyed by all. :)

"THE COMPLICATED FUTILITY OF IGNORANCE.
OK. I ADMIT IT. IT REALLY WAS A WHOREHOUSE.
I’D LAUGH LIKE HELL.
EXCREMENT HIT THE CEILING."
____________________________________________
According to Oxford dictionary,
hocus-pocus
noun
•meaningless talk or activity, typically designed to trick someone or conceal the truth of a situation
•US deception; trickery.
____________________________________________
It’s the story of Eugene Gene Debs, a Vietnam War veteran who becomes a Professor and later, is accused of masterminding a prison break. He writes this book while awaiting his trial, on pieces of papers and the narrative is like snippets stitched together.
____________________________________________
Just like this. Smug.
____________________________________________
Kurt Wanna-gut gives you guts churning episodes in his book Hocus Pocus. A Black escaped convict is shot while ice skating. A Japanese Warden recollects the bombing of Hiroshima. The story ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Tralfamadore’ is a biting piece of satire in the book which attacks the state of planet.
History -facts and opinions and episodes- and anecdotes are interwoven together in the book, giving us a patched and tattered flag of humanity in the mid-20th Century. Vonnegut adds a smattering of quotations from Shakespeare in an almost irreverent manner. He plays around with numbers too.
And lists. Debs makes two lists: people he killed and women he has made love to. I’d like to make a list of similes used by Vonnegut which gives us a glimpse into his imaginative mind. So helicopters are human pterodactyls, World War II is Finale Rack, Homecoming from the Vitenam war is like coming out of a stuck-up lift and “the noise of artillery shells is our tune”, in words of Jack Patton. Every time I read one such comparison; I closed the book, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Easy.
____________________________________________
Americans were after body counts in the Vietnam war. Japanese in the futuristic (no more) 2001(the book was written in 1990) are after dollar. I ask you, what’s common between war and economy? They make people …bleed.
____________________________________________
The feel of this anti-war book is morbid: there are wars, suicides, madness but the narrative never lets you out of the grip. The book is anti-TV, anti-government, anti-Capitalist cronies, anti-religion, anti-racism.
Just because some of us can read and write and do a little math, that doesn't mean we deserve to conquer the Universe.

Still taking that one-way-trip to Mars, are you?

I have read a few male pubescent protagonist who feature in series: the whiz-kid Artemis Fowl, the wizard Harry Potter, the demigod Percy Jackson and now, for the first time, the spy Alex Rider. Okay, I am done bragging. Let’s move on.
After his uncle Ian Rider dies, Alex is blackmailed by MI6 and he goes on his first mission reluctantly. As we read the book, we get to know that his uncle had trained him all his life for becoming a spy.
Horowitz shows us the inhumane side of the bosses at MI6, in the way they coerce Alex Rider. Whereas the humane(almost) side of the antagonist Herod Sayle is brought forth when we get to know his past. It reminds me of the opening line from Iron Man 3:
We create our own demons.
Horowitz has written an afterword, where he mentions that James Bond (novels and films) have been a great influence on him. The afterword was published in 2010 -10 years after the book was first published. I wonder, was it because of some allegations of ‘inspiration’, that he needed to take a stance? Well, we all know that William Wordsworth wrote the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads to defend his style. What was Horowitz clarifying? And like Horowitz, I will never forget the opening line of the book/series:
When the doorbell rings at three in the morning, it's never good news.
I don't think I would have enjoyed watching this story on screen. It would be too action-packed(incidents and co-incidents): last minute escapes and chase and hanging by thread(literally) from a plane. The characters on screen might come across as sketchy and unbelievable. That’s where the power of written word comes into play. There is a sprinkling of word-play and irony in the book that made me chuckle. Also, it was fun to imagine the sequence in my head. I bet it would be a thrill ride for an adolescent.
I have always wondered why people are so taken with espionage fiction? I know it’s stupid but the credulity is hard to come by because I have never met spies in real life. Like Dragons. Someday!

This was my first Michael Chrichton and in fact my first science fiction novel.
And yes, this book is of the quality of Jurassic Park. It contains all the typical Michael Crichton traits. Its full of surprises and awes and chills.
The end is a bit disappointing, but I can guarantee you, the novel would surely be one of the best sci-fi novels. It is worth a read.
I rate it 4 stars out of 5.

**** (4 stars out of 5)
If this is not the first Poirot you are reading, you will find all the excitement and fun you are looking for magnified, (those which are associated with Poirot).
It is one of those murder mysteries where every one of the concerned characters are equally probable murderers (in the ind of the reader), with very few clues to pin point to one.
Yet, it is what the ordinary eye cannot see, or rather the ordinary ear that does not note, which is noted by the trained and ordered mind of Hercule Poirot.
The end of the mystery - which bears the typical A.Christie trait of all characters in one room and Poirot explaining - is too good. I was totally flabbergasted when the book reveals the murderer. What's more, Poirot had already formed a valid theory (those that is pointed out by the facts, mon ami !!!) since the middle of the book.
This book also has Hastings which is always more fun than Poirot alone.
All in all, you will enjoy reading it.
I give it 4 stars out of 5.

One of the worst books I have ever read. Simplest story line ever. Written for 14 year olds.. Read it only if you have nothing else to do. May be even not then.. I struggled hard for finishing the same. I cant comprehend how the author has become a best selling author with this kind of story and writing style.. :(

This book is a series of events that unfold in the lives of two children namely Kane and Abel respectively. The language is simple. It is not as one can say a thriller exactly. However, it is surely a fine read.
The one thing that is most required in a book, as far as a reader's perspective is concerned, is connecting with the characters, the liveliness, etc - and this book lacks none. While reading this book, Jeffrey Archer made me believe that all of the mentioned events must really have happened.
The book was predictable, but nevertheless enjoyable. No real major thrills or shockers or excitement was seen during the life events of both lead characters, they were however extraordinary.
It has a nice ending to the book. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.

Thank God the second half of the book had some dialogues. It was better than the first book THE GUNSLINGER, yet it still does not reveal the slightest bit of information about the Tower. Finally, Roland shows some sign of love towards other human beings. Now I don't hate him as much as I did after I read the first part. First part of the book is a bore, again with very little dialogues. I hope the remainder of the books generate a genuine suspense and a little more thrills.

***1/2 out of 5
This book is as interesting as the first one.
The book starts with Lisbeth on a vacation for a full year with billions in her bank account. Mikael-the star journalist, meets a new free lance journalist who is going to expose a major sex and prostitution scandal in Sweden. But the news of such an exposure is leaked before Millennium could print their magazine and the young journalist is murdered.
Nils Bjurman is found dead. The police connects the two murdered and suspects Lisbeth for the murders. A nation wide hunt is for Salander begins.
Blomkvist starts his own investigation and encounters horrifying stories of Lisbeth's past. Who is behind the murders? How will Blomkvist communicate with her, when Lisbeth has completely vanished?
A fantastic book. simple language. Too much details. Unnecessarily prolonged investigation details are mentioned. But overall, a good read.
3.5 out of 5 stars.

Although, it is a book for the teenage kids, I found it quite entertaining.
It is a quick-read sort of book.
Creatively written.
This is the story of a boy, who is in constant search of a date to take her to prom and his exquisite plans with his best friend, to get it !!!
Entertaining.
I have already queued up other books of the series.

Agatha Christie knows one thing more than any other, to surprise and scare you.
This book is not a Poirot or a Miss Marple mystery but a psycho-thriller novel.
It is a slow starter, but the plot develops steadily in the middle. The end is the best part of the book. This book is scary, interesting, slow, devoid of Poirot's witty questions and reasoning, but full of surprises.
Overall, it is a must read, in fact a "more-than-once-read" novel.. I personally loved the character of Santonix, the architect and that of Greta.

I give this book 2.5 out of 5 stars. (0.5 stars more for the last chapter).
For all of you who read reviews and got recommendations about Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series, I hate to break this to you, but the 1st part is a real bore.
However, the second part is the total opposite, and it really gets interesting from there.
The whole book is a journey in a mysterious desert of a man named Roland in pursuit of a Man in Black. He keeps killing town people in his way. A kid, a New Yorker later joins his quest, giving the story some hope of an interest.
However, this is an incomplete story. Do have patience because the second part is really fun.
The only interesting part of the book was the fifth chapter where the gunslinger and the man in black have a chat.
The only time when things became a bit clearer.
Otherwise I found most of the book pretty boring.

It's a good book. However, it gives illustrations, which are somewhat outdated in the modern context, even though it is a must read book. The author has tried to compare Warren Buffett with other similar legendary investors, so it gives a fair idea about investing. In short I would say, principals are general, but choices are personal. Thanks.

A nice fast paced book. You just can't put it down and are compelled to keep turning the pages. Although the mythological backdrop with a modern outlook and explanations is interesting, but at times the author has made the narrative too plain. But if you are looking for a book with simple story line and fast narrative, then its a good pick.

I'm only halfway through this book, so judge this review at your own risk.
it starts off in a small town called Pagford, very similar to all of Stephen King's towns, except there's no vampire. The small town has all the same characteristics that such towns normally do- everyone knows everybody, women gossiping, children rebelling etc.
The Casual Vacancy is no Harry Potter. Not even close. Some of you would say it is unfair to compare HP to this, but you have to admit, after HP you kinda have high expectations.
The characters are not very well-defined except for the children, who for me form the most entertaining bunch so far.
The story doesn't pick up until halfway through the book, so keep patient until you reach that point. It is a J.K Rowling after all, so don't put it down. It does pick up.
I wouldn't go so far as to forbid you from buying it, but that's only since it is a J.K Rowling. This review would have been a lot more caustic had the author been someone else.

Susan Gellert is an obscure dancer - blonde, beautiful and innocent, who performed onstage with a deadly cobra on her neck, and a dancer, Denny, who also appeared innocent. Susan is insured for a sum of a million dollars at the National Fidelity, where the infamous Maddux heads the Claims Department. Maddux doesn't like it one bit, and asks Steve Harmas, his investigator, to try and find out the real picture, even before something happened to Susan and any claim was made. Was it supposed to be a publicity stunt, to get Susan's name in the local dailies? But someone stood to gain an awful lot of money, if she died. And by the time Steve completed his investigations, he was sure that whoever it was, didn't intend to wait long before collecting the compensation money...

Paul Sherman is a veteran Interpol Narcotics Bureau agent, used to independent action and blunt force tactics. He is assisted by two attractive female agents, one an experienced operative, the other a rookie. Sherman is in the Netherlands after receiving word about a vicious herion smuggling ring from a friend. However, the narco-criminals will kill ruthlessly to protect its operation and even before Sherman can leave Schiphol Airport he has already witnessed the gunning down of his key contact, been knocked half-unconscious by an assassin, and tangled with local authorities. "Puppet on a Chain" has the standard twisting plot, local atmospherics, and sardonic dialogue that were Maclean's trademarks as a story-teller. Maclean allows his protagonist to have a bantering sarcastic relationship with his assistants that provides a streak of humor as the plot unfolds. Unfortunately, Sherman's relationship with his assistants is used against him. As his investigation is undermined by betrayal, leaving him constantly a half-step behind his adversaries, Sherman must resort to increasingly violent action to turn the tables. The story culminates in a violent struggle above the streets of Amsterdam to save the life of his surviving female operative, not knowing whether anyone they meet can really be trusted.

The scream heard by no one is the deadliest.
In the rural parishes of Louisiana's French Triangle, young women are disappearing one by one, only to turn up on the banks of the bayou, strangled and cast aside where they are sure to be found. But there is one trophy the killer prizes above all others, one woman who must be silenced forever....
Attorney Laurel Chandler did not come back to Bayou Breaux to seek justice. That once-burning obsession had destroyed her credibility, her career, her marriage—and nearly her sanity. But when a ruthless predator strikes too close to home, she's lured into a perverse game from which there may be no escape. Once before, Laurel's cries against a monstrous evil went unanswered. Who will listen now?

In Personal Injuries, Turow continues to explore the justice system through Faulknerian characters such as attorney Robbie Feaver, agent Evon Miller, U.S. Attorney Stan Sennett, and Justice Brendan Tuohey. These individuals drive the mystery at the core of the book. The novel begins with Robbie Feaver seeking advice from attorney George Mason, the narrator. Feaver admits that he has been bribing several judges in the Common Law Claims Division to win favorable judgments for years. U.S. Attorney Stan Sennett has uncovered Feaver's secret and wants Feaver to strike a deal to get at the man he believes to be at the center of all the legal corruption in the metropolitan area, Brendan Tuohey, Presiding Judge of Common Law Claims and heir apparent to the Chief Justice of Kindle County Superior Court. An undercover scheme is put in motion to trap the guilty parties. The novel follows the FBI as it pursues the legal community of Kindle County in a web of tapped phones, concealed cameras, and wired spies

Attorney, Claire Kubik (Ashley Judd), and her woodworker husband, Tom (James Caviezel), find their idyllic life in Marin County shattered when, during a Christmas shopping excursion in San Francisco's Union Square, he is captured by the FBI and charged with the murder of nine peasants in a remote village in El Salvador in 1988. Claire is shocked to discover Tom, whose real name is Ronald Chapman, was a covert military operative serving in the United States Marine Corps and has been on the run for the past fourteen years.
Tom admits he was present at the scene of the mass murders but staunchly denies being involved in the killings. He insists he has been made a scapegoat in order to conceal the identity of the real culprit, Major James Hernandez (Juan Carlos Hernández), now the aide of Brigadier General Bill Marks (Bruce Davison).
First Lieutenant Terence Embry (Adam Scott) is assigned to defend Tom, but his youth and lack of experience prompt Claire to decide to defend her husband as well. When she realizes she needs help from someone familiar with the workings of a military court, she hires Charlie Grimes (Morgan Freeman), an embittered former military attorney who has a grudge against the military brass, to assist her. Five key eyewitnesses, who previously testified Tom was guilty, have died under seemingly mysterious circumstances, raising Claire and Charlie's suspicions. As the trial proceeds, they uncover a massive cover-up perpetrated by one of the military's highest ranking officials. Also creating problems are the sudden appearance of a resident of the village where the mass murder took place, who insists Tom was responsible; Embry's romantic involvement with Claire's irresponsible sister Jackie (Amanda Peet), which leads Claire to believe he may be leaking details about secrets she has uncovered to the prosecution; and Charlie's falling off the wagon after more than a year of sobriety.
Claire blackmails a general by threatening to reveal what she knows about the coverup and asks him to make the case go away. The Department of Defense has the case thrown out of court due to "security reasons". Just as Claire is about to celebrate her victory in court, Charlie discovers the truth, while in Mexico, that Tom had murdered one of the witnesses, indicating that he was the killer after all. After hearing Claire talk to Charlie on the phone, a short scuffle between Claire and Tom ensues. The Salvadorian witness to the massacre shoots Tom through the window. The film ends with Charlie and Claire starting a new partnership-based law firm.

This is Chitra Banerjee's 3rd book that I have read. Her style has captivated me.Every book tackles a different subject;such versatility is amazing.I guess, presently she is one of the best Indian authors writing in English.
This book weaves stories of three generations of women, intricately linking each event to the others' life. The mother- daughter relationship has been sensitively protrayed-the tinge of possessiveness hidden behind the overwhelming love of the daughter which is misunderstood as jealousy, the protectiveness of the Mother towards her daughter is surreal! As the daughter grows into an adult, then becomes a mother, her perceptions of her Mother also change -its been beautifully described. It maintains the mystery at times bordering.. on mysticism...A must read for everyone..

still thumps up for research he did....well done...not suitable for dummies though good for those people who are fond of reading....

After reading his previous two books BLACK FRIDAY AND MAFIA QUEENS OF MUMBAI,there a huge expectations from S.Hussain Zaidi's third much talked about book and i was really fascinated by this book. The book largely indicates the rags to riches story of Dawood ibrahim, one of the most notorious and dreaded gangster in the Mumbai underworld but also shows the growth of the crime in the city. Hussain zaidi's books are always found to be of beat and yet very commercializing and always manages to grab the attention of the readers. the book is engaging, fast paced and a visual treat from the author to his readers. The foreword written by the veteran writer Vikram chandra set up the book very smoothly and the moment when you read the interview of Dawood, you feel not dropping the book even for a moment. The hard work put by the author clearly shows in the book.It clearly shows the growth of Mumbai underworld from the bootleggers to shooter, from the destruction of one gang to the formations of another gang, from the start of a brutal rivalry to loss of an elder brother, from the biggest deal in the history of underworld to killing of a iconic music tycoon of the country. The book clearly shows the the emotions of greed, power, lust and willing to do anything to be the ultimate GODFATHER of the business. ALL IN ALL A MUST READ BOOK....IF YOU HAVE READED PREVIOUS BOOKS OF S.HUSSAIN ZAIDI..YOU WILL SURELY ENJOY THIS BOOK

This book is completely dedicated to all girls and their issues towards life. Kamini has chosen a very beautiful concept for her first book. I really enjoyed reading this book. Each and every character was beautifully defined. We can relate through the ups and downs of life. Every Girl needs some close pals to share their feelings and problems. I liked all the bunch of girls together, especially Neha, who was childish, immature we can totally relate with this character. I myself dream for a true lover. I really enjoyed reading the Girls party out in Goa with full of Booze and Entertainment. It really feels great when you have close pals by your side when you are depressed and lonely. They are there to protect you and advice you what is right and wrong. My personal favorite chapter was "Life is full of Surprises” I totally agree with this chapter life gives you full of surprises you are unaware of all the circumstances. Above all the climax was perfect. Great Job Kamini. Amazing book. 3.5 Stars out of 5. Happy Reading :)

The mystery of the disappearing cat is one of the best books in the series! The find outers are once again in for a mystery with an expensive siamese cat missing in the neighbourhood. One of their friends is under suspicion. The question is would they be able to solve the mystery with having the policeman, Mr. Goon as a competitor?

Jeffery Archer, my second most favorite author after Dan Brown. If you are someone like me who loves to read books on Mysteries and Thrillers, then this book will take you for a ride. A definite page turner. The book is full of twists. Right when you guess what's gonna happen next(which won't happen much though) you'll be shocked by the sudden change in story. The book is a perfect blend of Murder, Courtroom Scenes, Prison scenarios, Escaping, Revenge and other such things. Right till the last word of the book, you'll find yourself on the edge and keep guessing what its gonna be. Surely as the description says, I still have all those characters in mind though i finished the book some days ago.
I rate it 5 out of 5 without hesitation.

This book has achieved cult status for a reason. It is a lesson in Loyalty – Family always comes First, right or wrong. It also teaches qualities for leadership – Modesty, Loyalty, Principles, Values, Persistence and the most important of all – Ability to Reason-“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.” it grips you till the end, and boy, it has a hard grip. You’ll emerge battered and bruised in the end, as if you’ve fought along with the Corleones. If not that, it makes you double check your moral compass, because here, the protagonist is a wanted, ruthless and notorious criminal and yet, you’ll end up rooting for him. That’s for sure. The Godfather is a serious read, entirely devoid of humour, dark or light, but tell you what, it doesn’t need it. The novelty of it is in details, the author has taken great pains in describing the violence permeating through the book- each kill, each gunshot, each blood pattern – It certainly is not for the weak hearted! And not just violence! In depth, saucy, yet dignified detailed sex! What more can one ask for? Values, loyalty, violence and hard sex- all in one package. A must read for everyone!

I had heard and read a lot of reviews about this book but didn't find the book up to the mark. This book is written by a very young, yes, VERY young author (19 year old when she wrote this book) so was looking forward to see what a 19 year old can write, as i didn't even know what to write in my exams even though i tried memorizing the answers a thousand times. ;) Yes, there are certain times when you are forced to smile or laugh at that too, but other than that the book is quite predictable with a poor story line. The chats mentioned in the book are the only positive things in the book. Overall not too good, not too bad. If you are searching for some mature books with a good story, this book is definitely NOT the one you might be looking for. I rate it 2 or to be generous (considering the age of the writer i.e. 19 years) 2.5 stars out of 5.

Usually you find this book in the age group for 6-14 years old, but believe me, being a 23 year old.. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK and the characters even.. I read this book for the first time and instantly started loving it.. a page turner for sure.. completed this book in 3 hours flat.. a completely "unputdownable" book.. If you too love this one, read the others in this series too..
A 5 out of 5 rating as far as i am concerned.!!

It is an amazing and heart-warming story about a woman who married a frenchman but after a couple of years she realised that he didnt give a damn about her, she was just a show piece for him and as the weathers change and summer sets out its foot, she finds love, confidance , friendship and care in a art gallery owner. and they have a deal that as the summer will come to an end, so will their affair . on the other hand her husband has been involved with a woman he loves. as their marriage falls out and both pretend to try to save it, an unexpected event , lie and a beautiful thing all wrapped in one happens to their so-called relation. would they stick together or separate their ways?

I ordered this book because I like Rashmi Bansal's work, and I have a dream jst proved me right all over again. When I started reading I could feel the power of a man rising above the system, but I was thinking will Ms Bansal be able to carry the same motivation, enthusiasm till the last page, but this time she proved me wrong. I can go to the extent by saying that this is one of the best books I have read and I will always hold it close to my heart, because this book has introduced me to so many people I did not know about who are trying to clean the dirt around me, trying to make it a better place by giving up so much in their life.
Hats off to all the people who have motivated me to do something somewhere down the line, and a special thank you to Ms Bansal for telling us their story of faith, hope, struggle, good cause etc.
Would pay a thousand bucks to read this book, hundred's too less!!!

What makes ‘’a dilli-mumbai love story’’ different from the other love stories?? What will drive me to reach my hand first to the red coloured book where the blazing Taj can be ssen vaguely?? The most magnetic point about the novel is the story line which makes it different from all the other lo...ve stories. Passionate and warm love between Ani and Apu touched my soul ad every girl reading the novel will relate herself with Apu and will wish to have someone like Ani in her life,as I did. The love between ani and apu was not limited to the terrestrial existence but it was eternal. The love between them, strong commitments and dependence on each other took them a long way, beyond mortality. The novel helped me to rejuvenate the meaning of love. It is pure, divine and eternal. Gracias to abhimanyu for gifting us such a marvel and we all are waiting anxiously for his next bizarre.

To read a work of fiction in familiar surroundings is not one usually gets a chance to do in life.
Here I have an opportunity to read a chapter of my life and how I grew up through an author who happens to be my best friend those years…A rarity in all ways …The book is a masterpiece of the surroundings I grew up .. I am thinking of giving this book to my girls when life’s decisions are thrust upon them …and say this is how it was and we still made it and you will it after all “Life is What you make it”
A very compelling title and a story that keeps you in touch with realities of conservative families in the late 80’s. The book also illustrates of how innocent our ambitions are how important they are at certain stages of life. It shows how one gets drawn into relationships that end in consequences beyond one’s control. The book captures circumstance in a real life yet things or actions least expected makes an impact .Finally everyone makes life the way they want it. It is only a matter of when!
The book is well written and keeps you engaged till end. It is set in a world where we had no modern gadgets and yet we nurtured log distance relationships and wrote letters. The world is so different yet ultimately “ Life is what you make it”
A great book and must read!

I was wondering why Mr. Zaidi has not come up with another book after Black Friday.Better late then never, Mafia Queens of Mumbai is worth waiting for.The real life stories of Women who have made a stronghold in mafioso are compelling and thrilling to say the least.
If one day I have to make a movie, I'll surely make a movie on Sapna, that's the best of the lot, though each and every story is a masterpiece in itself.
Foreword by one of my favourite directors, Vishal Bhardwaj is an icing on the cake.
Where is Anurag Kashyap?...Would love to see a movie made by him on one of the stories from the book!

I begin with sayin, i was/am/and ever will be an ardent archer fan. For those who have read kane and abel and sons of fortune, will find this book have a similar storyline in the beginning. But what makes this novel stand apart from them is the way archer said story, how ppl who lead different lives sees the things happening around them. To add to this, a typical archer's book with a half a dozen twists, which adds its part to keep the page turning. For ppl who havnt read any of archer's till now, this turns out to be a MUST READ. But for the ARCHER FANS, they wont find this mindblowing like KANE AND ABEL, THE ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT etc. To summarize, this book, as all of the archer's, is an excellent page turner with a superb end which makes us long for whats gonna happen in the next part. THE GREAT ARCHER DOES IT AGAIN:) :)

Chanakya's Chant is one of the fastest reads that I've had in a very long time. Ashwin Sanghi's uncanny ability to keep you turning the pages is his strongest skill. I had loved The Rozabal Line but in that Sanghi had allowed the pace to slacken in the second half. In this book, the story hurls you through Magadha, 2300 years ago, and from there to New Delhi in the present day. It's a roller-coaster ride with murder, intrigue, political drama, espionage, and lust thrown in at just the appropriate times to prevent one from putting down the novel. "Brilliant" is the only word that can describe this thriller!

Nicholas Sparks really has some charm and a truly admirable way of expressing the feelings and the mind-set of the characters. Although this book is one of those kinds which depends on the readers choice but I absolutely loved it. While reading the book you feel like a part of the story and each and every emotion touches your heart. It is about a troubled teenager who tries to find life in a place which she hates. It is a story of growing up and the rekindling of a long broken father-daughter relationship. The sorrow and distress towards the end of the book is expressed in an excellent way.I enjoyed the book very much.

I played splinter cell games when I was in college. A few days ago, I knew about the book series by tom clancy. I grab that book and read it and I must appreciate that it's story telling style is new age and interesting. Though, spy-fi novel lovers would find a bit old plot but still I'd give it a chance. Overall, 3.5/5 or may be 4/5 star rating.

SAM BOURNE IS THE NEW NAME ADDED TO THE LIST OF MY FAVORITES..!! HE IS NOT OF THE LEVEL OF DAN BROWN YET, BUT SOON CAN BE ONE OF THE BEST AUTHORS IN THIS WORLD..!!
THE CHOSEN ONE IS A BOOK ABOUT AMERICAN PRESIDENCY AND THE PROBLEMS ARISING ON THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. A BOOK THAT WILL NOT LET YOU PUT ITSELF DOWN TILL YOU LEARN THE SECRET. JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW IT ALL, THERE'S A NEW TWIST IN THE STORY..!! BUT STILL THERE ARE CERTAIN CHAPTERS WHICH MAKE YOU WONDER "WHAT WAS THAT..??" A NEW WAY OR NARRATING THE STORY WILL MAKE YOU WONDER SOMETIMES. BUT A NEW APPROACH OF NARRATING STORIES IS NICE.

This book says things in simple ways that any one who reads it can relate and implement. The book talks about 9Ps, from Passion to Patriotism. The 9 powerful principle in rhythm with success. Loads of references of successful people are given.

a disappointing book..got a feeler, the book was completed by just gathering information from every nook and corner and presented with an extra garnish...another problem is that such authors are highly self obsessed by themselves.

For the lovers of spy-fi, Robert Ludlum brought us a second book of Jason Bourne series. And believe me, we worth it to read. Thrill & suspense captivate our mind and push us to read further and further. These books forced my heart so much that I bought all seven novels' set on last week!

I read first book of Mr. Chetan Bhagat & now understood perfectly why we got 2 movies from his earlier books in bolloywood.
I think Mr. Chetan Bhagat can be a real good script writer for Hindi Movies...I bet his combination with Mr. Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be superb..
Anyways as far as book goes the plot is real good..Marriage of two highly educated inttelactual ppl from two totally different states of India..Good Idea..
I think author has made a very strong point of National Intigrity through the marriages of Inter-state level in a very lite manner chocolate raped it in story which contains IIT,IIMA campus, Sex Before Marriage, Marriage after having sex also (with the same girl!!!!!), Tamilnadu, Carnatic Music, Tamil Brahmins, Punjabis, Paneer, Dispaired Parents etc etc
I liked going through book...it was very hillarious at many places...Let me mention it I laughed even though I was Home Alone reading the book...
Chetan Bhagat Makes discription of story in such a fashion that you can definately see the movie running on the BIG Screen of your Mind Multiplex...
All in All a very good book with a very gr8 message...that Just Get Married to a Girl/Boy in Different State (If you are Still Unmarried!!!) very nicely for the sake of National Integration of State called "INDIA"...

First n foremost, the book is meant for those who have a job but hate d one! Those who are underpaid! Those who have no productive work to do! Those who need to kill time with random stuff! Those who are pissed off between personal n professional life! If u'r one of those... go ahead n pick tis book...!!!
The protagonist, Nakul Kapoor (MBA) joins d corporate world whose is identified in d whole organization just by his checkered green shirt :P High n low shades of his life are told in d story... A self-centered boss, a highly brand conscious girlfriend, a frustrated colleague, a cry-baby typo roomie... Everythin was neatly described at start only!
Story starts wit a promisin note by an author Mr. Nishant Kaushik:
"If you think this is your story, read on-you will find yourself in it. If it's not your story, read on anyway-for it will be your story too, sooner or later...!"
But failed to keep it throughout...! :(
On my view, the book is written quite in a bloggin language... so it captivated me through initial chapters... but I lost interest midway only! Ending of d book was abrupt too... I felt so many open threads @ d end!
Concluding everything, an average read which is 'not-much-of-a-reader-type'. Ummm... 2.5 out of 5!!! :)

A comprehensive book on India

A comprehensive book on India that covers EVERYTHING on its way from politics to the people and comparisons with our envious neighbours. Edward Luce's work and research is highly commendable. A must read book for people who want to know the story of India and why India is a nation that is on the threshold of greatness despite its plethora of limitations.
The story of India is a unique one as a fair percent of the population are unaware and remain oblivious to the fact that India might just be able to achieve super power status in due time.
Drawing quotes from Amartya Sen, Abdul Kalam, Sonia Gandhi, Advani and various eminent figures the book gives a full fledge view on India's failures and India's strong points.

This book has all the components to be called A Modern Classic! I havent read the phenomenal Da Vinci Code but could easily understand this novel as only few things have been referred from it. You will find a spellbinding and extravagant twist in every chapter which will make your imagination run wild!!! Dan Brown has woven an intellectual plot with an extravagant aura. This sinister mystery is worth the money! Go buy it!

How can you know someone you've never met? That's the question haunting Joyce Conway these days. Recovering from a terrible accident and with her marriage in pieces, Joyce is suddenly plagued by an overwhelming sense of déjà vu that makes her feel as if the life she's living is not her own. During the day she has vivid memories of things she's never seen—such as cobblestoned Parisian streets she's never visited—and at night she dreams of a little girl she's sure she's never met. Joyce is convinced she's lost her mind . . . until a series of coincidences leads her on a journey to meet the one person who may hold the answer she needs. Someone's life could be depending on you right now. . . . That's the pitch that finally persuades Justin Hitchcock to donate blood—the first thing to come straight from his heart in a long time. Restless and lonely, Justin chased his ex-wife and daughter from Chicago to London, and now he's in Dublin, guest-lecturing to bored college students. When he receives a basket of muffins with a thank-you note attached, he's sure someone's playing a joke on him, but then the presents keep coming. Intrigued, Justin is determined to solve the mystery—a quest that will change his life forever.

An addictive story of two teenagers –- Bella, a common girl and Edward, an unusual boy... and a vampire. Feeling of romance between Edward and Bella is very much touching n compelling.
- Highly captivative
- Very fast-paced story of romance and suspense
- Comparative clean plot on teenage vampire romance
This book really has something for everyone. Ranging from young adult readers, vampire fans to romance readers will all find Twilight to be an appealing story.

The book author, Chetan Bhagat had to say in beginning of the book "kahani puri filmi hai" :P Story has IIMA as a background... n later it's all about life after college which shows a struggle to get your in-laws fall in love with you. :P
Book is good and enjoyable initially but for some places, the plot seems too loose. The author has tried sketching characters very nicely but drastically failed, especially with characters of boy's parents. Few things @ climax are not at all digestible... A person who never had any respect of emotions for his wife becomes pretty much sensitive for character of gal... n tat into a dramatic way! Also ending of story is not convincing about the changes in view points regarding Ananya in the last of few pages of the book.
Overall an average read with 2.5 out of 5...

The first thing we notice about any novel is its “Title” and if the title is so fascinating then one will surely dig out time to go through this book. A book by very young authors Durjoy Datta and Maanavi Ahuja both from Delhi.
The last part of the title “till I find someone better..” is the dream of every engineering student….but it’s a dream seen by open eyes and “Off course” is never fulfilled for at least for99% guys but our hero Deb belongs to other 1%(I wish I could have been among 1% of those guys!!!!!).He fulfills his dream by loving girls mostly behind the tinted windows of cars, the old bhootbangala and surprisingly in the gardens of the India Gate early in the morning……now that’s really amazing!!!!!!!!!

Nilekani, as someone who inspired book like The World is Flat and poster boy of Indian IT Industry/Outsourcing Industry, fails to grip the readers. This book spoke more about the problems of present India and solutions to some of them. It was not an inspiring or an insightful piece of work. I guess my expectations were different. This book sounded more like a foundation of Nilekani’s political career.

I finished this 500+ page book in 7 hours, typical Dan-Brown-can't-put-the-book-down type of action adventure. That being said, I had great expectations for the story considering how good both the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons were, but unfortunately it was sub-par in comparison. On a positive note, I am finally able to make sense of the various Masonic symbolism I've seen in my life! I'd rate it a 3 out of 5...
