Description:

Tagore s plays may be conveniently studied under three heads: dramas of plot and character, written in the traditional some say Shakespearean manner; symbolist dramas where the action exists primarily to project a meaning not directly communicable; and dance dramas. In the first category, of which Visarjan or Sacrifice is the most successful, there is no paucity of action and some personages are vividly portrayed. The emphasis however is, neither on plot nor on character, but on the ideas emerging from them.
